Describe a place you visited where the air was polluted.
You should say
- Where the place is
- When you visited.
- Why the air was not good
Note: you have to talk for 1 to 2 minutes. You have 1 minute to take a look at the main points and prepare some notes which you can use while speaking.
Where the place is
The place I visited where the air was highly polluted was Ludhiana, a city in the state of Punjab in India. I visited this city last year in the month of June for a family function.
When you visited.
The air quality in Ludhiana was not good due to various reasons. Firstly, the city is known for its heavy industrialization and large-scale manufacturing activities, which emit large amounts of pollutants into the air. Secondly, the city also has a high density of vehicles on the roads, which contribute to the already poor air quality. Lastly, the city experiences high levels of smog, which exacerbates the air pollution problem and makes it difficult for residents to breathe
Why the air was not good
During my visit to Ludhiana, I noticed that the air had a noticeable smoky and acrid smell, and it was difficult to breathe, especially during the afternoon and evening. I also noticed that many people, particularly the elderly and children, were experiencing symptoms such as coughing, headaches, and irritation in their eyes and throat.
In conclusion, my visit to Ludhiana highlighted the severe issue of air pollution and the impact it can have on the health and well-being of the residents. I hope that the city can take steps to reduce its air pollution levels and create a healthier environment for its residents.
Follow-Ups
1. Is there more pollution now than in the past?
Yes, there is more pollution now than in the past. The rapid pace of industrialization, urbanization, and population growth has led to a significant increase in air pollution globally. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the levels of air pollution in many cities around the world have reached alarming levels, putting the health and well-being of millions of people at risk.
2. In what ways can the air pollution be reduced effectively?
In order to effectively reduce air pollution, several steps can be taken. Firstly, there needs to be a reduction in the emission of pollutants from industries, transportation, and other sources. Governments can implement stricter regulations and encourage the use of cleaner technologies to reduce emissions. Secondly, promoting the use of alternative modes of transportation such as cycling, walking, or public transportation, can significantly reduce the amount of pollution caused by vehicles. Additionally, efforts can be made to promote energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources to reduce emissions from power generation.
